Moving Australia

Brief History of BIC

The BIC had humble beginnings in its predecessor the Australian Bus and Coach Association (ABCA). It was agreed in 1994 that the name of the representative organisation for the Bus and Coach Industry in Australia be the Bus Industry Confederation (BIC).

In its formative years the BIC was based out of the office of the Bus and Coach Association of New South Wales, now known as BusNSW.

The BIC and ABCA were amalgamated in 2000 into a single entity and the BIC was established in Canberra in 2002 with the appointment of Michael Apps as its Executive Director.

Since establishing our office in Canberra the BIC has positioned itself as the unifying voice for the bus and coach industry in Australia.

Through the creation and continual development of our Moving People Vision and Strategy the BIC has been a lead organisation in identifying and defining the role of the Commonwealth Government in how we move people and integrate transport and planning in our cities.

Through our social inclusion agenda the BIC has been a lead organisation in identifying the relationship between social inclusion and transport in Australian cities and regions.
