Bus Australia Network

The Bus Australia Network (BAN) was developed in 2014 by the BIC and State Associations. The purpose of the BAN is to create greater recognition of how the BIC and State Associations operate as an industry family and how they are representing the interests of the Australian bus and coach industry. The State Associations involved in the BAN are listed below.

Formed in 1942, the Bus & Coach Association of New South Wales is the peak industry organisation for the bus and coach sector. The private bus industry is a major provider of public transport in New South Wales; 1,000 members carry approximately 650,000 school children to and from school each day and passenger journeys in Wollongong, Blue Mountains, Central Coast and the Greater Sydney Metropolitan area total more than 100 million per annum. In addition, the Association also represents the owners of the New South Wales coach fleet. The members of BCA (NSW) operate some 6,000 buses and have approximately 10,000 employees.

BAV represents 650 members, operating approximately 4,600 buses and coaches throughout Victoria. BusVic is committed to serving the interests of the community and its members by providing opportunities for members to: .maximise profitability and long term security; .maintain the positive public perception of safety, reliability, efficiency and ethical conduct; . retain community service values in the delivery of road passenger operations.

Bus SA was established to develop the bus and coach industry, including the school bus, route, tour and charter sectors, for the benefit of South Australians and visitors to South Australia. The focus of our lobbying to state and local governments in South Australia is to encourage investment in passenger transport networks throughout the state, as well as to ensure a suitable and sustainable framework for school bus operators to continue to provide their essential services. We promote strategies that sustain the growth of our industry.

The Western Australian Road Transport Association (WARTA) is a ‘not for profit’ member driven organisation and is the peak advisory body representing the Transport and Logistics Industry in Western Australia.

QBIC represents bus and coach operators throughout the entire State. From the Cape to the Coast and west to Mt Isa, QBIC has strong metropolitan and regional bases. QBIC also has an excellent network of QBIC Branches where members have the opportunity to meet and discuss critical issues with other operators in their areas. These regional branches are a key advantage QBIC has to ensure all members have a forum in which to voice their concerns and seek solutions to their problems.

The Tasmanian Bus Association promotes the Tasmanian Bus Industry in partnership with Government, as an important element to ensuring the future sustainability of Tasmania?s land transport system to provide Tasmanian communities a viable and alternative travel choice to the car and ensure services meet the mobility requirements of all in the community.

International Association

The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) is the worldwide network of public transport professionals. UITP represents over 2700 urban, local, regional and national mobility actors from more than 90 countries on all continents. UITP covers all modes of public transport - metro, bus, light rail, regional and suburban railways, and waterborne transport. It also represents collective transport in a broader sense (for instance car-sharing). In addition, UITP is currently further expanding its presence on the mobility market, including the taxi sector. As the prime advocate and promoter of public transport, UITP works to mobilise political will with its sound evidence, and to create a favourable climate for the sector. As the representatives of the entire mobility market, UITP has a strong voice and significant influence when it comes to defending the interests of public transport.

The Bus and Coach Association (NZ) is the authoritative voice for the New Zealand bus and coach industry. It is an industry association that covers bus and coach operators, both large and small, limousine and small PSV operators, as well as other businesses associated with the industry, including coach, equipment and service suppliers.
